JMO Comment on: "1776"
The book "1776" by David McCullough dipicts a rich account of the American Revolution and the main figures at the time. Obviously, the main figure is George Washington, but the book is full of many others and what they went through at the time. The human aspect is trully an awakening from just viewing this era as a point in American history. The book actually takes you there on a personal level to a point of almost living it yourself...

"The year 1776, celebrated as the birth year of the nation and for the signing of the of the Declaration, was for those who carried the fight for independence forward a year of all-too-few victories, of sustained suffering, disease, hunger, desertion, cowardice, disillusionment, defeat, terrible discouragement, and fear, as they would never forget, but also of phenomenal courage and bedrock devotion to country, and that, too, they never forgot." p.294
